In this module I used RStudio Cloud. Using R, I learned to:
Clean data (such as drop_na)
Organize data (such as arrange)
Analyze data (such as summarize)
Visualize data (such as using ggplot)
Share what I have done, including by using an .rmd file and creating an HTML markup
Coming out of the 6th module and Tableau visualizations, I could not imagine what this what might contain or what R would do that the other programs I had used already could not do. To be honest, the first few "weeks" of this module were overwhelming to me, because they were very content heavy. It took a while before the course got to hands on activities, which was unusual.
Finally, we dove right into using R. The course designed the modules in a very intuitive way- and I found that I was picking up the concepts very quickly. However, there was a lot of content! Each time I started a new activity I would feel intimidated, but then as I moved along it was always very doable. As it turns out, R is actually pretty fun! By the time I got to the end of this module, I was amazed at all of the things that I had learned how to do in R.
Looking back, I think that learning how to use SQL prior to learning R made getting the hang of R much easier. I had already begun to learn how to think using a different kind of logic, and there is similarities between how to use the two of them. I think that when I return to SQL, it will be easier now that I have practiced with R. As fun as R is, I am excited to get back to SQL! At the very end of this module, when I started to see all the different functions that I had learned come together, is when it clicked for me. Now I can see why people are so passionate about using R- I was amazed to see what could be done within just a few keystrokes. After this course finishes, I will need to look into further resources for how I can continue on my learning journey with R. I would also like to learn Python, which I hear is easier to learn if you have already started to learn R.
